Absolute, arbitrary power concentrated in the hands of any governing body is antithetical to the fundamental principles of liberty and justice that underpin a free society. The role of lawmakers should be to enshrine and safeguard the inalienable rights of individuals, not to subjugate them to the whims of unrestrained state control.
