There is an important difference between "reporters" of culture and "reformers" of culture. While the reporters merely gossip, repeat, and spread culture's problems, reformers are the ones who work toward solutions to those problems. Too many U.S. citizens are reporters, and are doing nothing to improve the state of American culture for future generations, which is why the family of faith needs to step up. Without the transforming power of the gospel, good policies and principles will not be able to create lasting change. In order to be true reformers, we need hearts that have been transformed by the gospel, because on our own, we are slaves to the desires of our sinful hearts. With the Bible as the ultimate source of truth, we must be the ones to convince this crooked culture that it needs change. Ep. 015 to Election Day - The Church’s Critical Role in Society

Government authorities should be obeyed, when they are doing their job of restraining evil so that citizens can do good. But when the government acts corruptly and fails to protect the people, that may be a time for civil disobedience. During the COVID-19 pandemic, churches across the country were deemed "nonessential," while institutions like strip clubs and smoke shops remained open. One particular pastor from Thousand Oaks, California decided that it was time for an act of civil disobedience, and while adhering to health precautions, he reopened his church as a place for community and spiritual renewal. This pastor, Rob McCoy, understood that the church was a placed ordained by God, and as such, fought back against the government to open the doors of the church. Like Rob, members of the family of faith need to constantly be asking ourselves what we can do to create a bright and hopeful future in this country. We need to be fighting for biblical values in a culture that desperately needs care for sinful hearts. Ep. 014 to Election Day - The Parable of the Talents and the Family of Faith

Jesus has tasked the family of faith to occupy the earth until he comes back, and we need to take that mission seriously, using the gifts that He has given us to multiply His kingdom. We see an example of this in the "Parable of the Talents," which tells the story of a nobleman who entrusts his servants with five talents, asking them to invest the money while he is away. When the nobleman finally returns, he is a king, and rewards the servants who invested their money wisely by multiplying their talents. When the king gets to the last servant, who had done nothing with what he was given due to fear, the king casts him away. Ep. 010 to Election Day - Defy False Binaries: Live Out Your Faith

There are some of us, including some in the family of faith, who believe that the world is inevitably going to decay until it is eventually destroyed. And yet, this is not what we see in Scripture, or in the teachings of Jesus. This world needs to be filled with people who love God and want to beautify the earth, allowing for the flourishing of all creation. In order to do this, we need to challenge false binaries that are undermining biblical truth and the exercise of our faith. Kirk outlines three sets of false binaries—sacred versus secular; spiritual versus physical; and church versus state—and encourages listeners to stop viewing these things as competing ideas. The sacred can exist in secular spaces, and it should. The spiritual world and the physical world are equally important in the eyes of God. And the church does not and should not exist outside of the state. Ep. 009 to Election Day - The Lord’s Prayer: Bringing Heaven to Earth

American citizens have been witnesses to a shift in leadership that is favoring progressive extremists who will destroy our schools, our economy, and the morals we once held. Those who intend to hold seats of power will usher in a new secular, humanist, socialist version of America, which is why the family of faith needs to uphold the wisdom of heaven now more than ever. We can look back on examples of spiritual revival throughout history, and one particular story from Great Britain in 800 B.C. stands out. If it weren't for the faithfulness of King Alfred of Wessex, the viking extremists would have destroyed even more of the country and wiped out all Christian morality. Instead of surrendering to the vikings, King Alfred assembled an army of likeminded Christians who defeated the vikings, and even offered mercy to their ruler, a man named Guthrum. When Guthrum accepted Alfred's offer of peace, he himself became a Christian and was baptized, and Wessex experienced a spiritual awakening all because of the dedication and courage of one man.
